When you have sex with someone, oxytocin creates a strong emotional bond to that person. When you have sex with someone else, another strong emotional bond is created, but not quite as strong as the first. And so on and so on. Oxytocin can only do so much.

The human mind just wasn't made to have such a strong emotional connection with multiple people. It's not that you "run out" of oxytocin, you just tolerate more of it, so it has less effect.

So, in a sense, you are right about one thing: sex can lead to divorce. If your "first time" isn't with your spouse, there is a huge emotional roadblock to truly loving that person. It can be overcome, of course, but it can also lead to divorce.

So if you're not a virgin before you find your mate for life, you can't truly love that person?

Correct me if I'm misreading you!  But there's absolutely no truth whatsoever to that statement.  I had a healthy sex life for several years before I met my true soulmate, Oscarsdad, and I can assure you I love him MUCH more than anyone else I had a relationship with in the previous 15 years!

      Never give up! Never surrender!

I shoudl never have been able to love again, since we had lots of sex.  I also had a few partners between losing him and marrying again--and THAT marriage has lasted 18 years.

      This is SUCH bullshit.

The last time we mixed religion and politics people got burned at the stake.

Gee, I had a sex with quite a variety of partners before I got married.

But when I met the woman married, I fell very, very hard for her.  I never, ever felt that way about anyone before.

We've been married 18 years now, with no signs of our love abating.

So my personal experience directly contradicts your hypothesis, in spades.

And I think the human mind is capable of quite a bit more than you seem to give it credit for.

Victory has many fathers, but Howard Dean was the doctor in the delivery room.

Sometimes I think that these people are trying to persuade us that the human mind is not capable of much, because otherwise we might start to think, and we all know where that leads... Liberalism!
