Milton, or any other within his trade (economics) that says they've received a Nobel Prize, isn't exactly truthful. There isn't any Nobel Prize wrt economics, rather there's a Swedish National Bank Prize to the Honor of Alfred Nobel. It just happens to be delivered at the same ceremony as the real Nobel Prizes. Why it is this way has it's historical origins. At the beginning the Swedish National Bank somehow sponsored the ceremony and that way managed to have it's own price delivered simultaneously. This was a great boon as it got the perceived status as a 'Nobel Prize'. That lead to others wanting to emulate the Swedish National Bank, but the Nobel Committee put a stop to this before any more harm was done. Alas, they couldn't get out of the deal with the Swedish National Bank.

Nobel had a thing against economists, because his wife ran off with one.

    •  Thanks. I didn't know (0+ / 0-)

so the Nobel peace prize doesn't have anything to do with the Nobel committee, but rather the Swiss National Bank, one of the banks that were Hitler's banker.

The Nobel peace prize has everything to do with the Nobel committee. The Nobel comittee has one branch in Sweden and one in Norway. It is the Norwegian Nobel committee branch that selects the peace prize winner and the cermony for that prize is held in Norway.
