  •  Where's Our Bobby... (0+ / 0-)

Easy answwer, he is the Governor-Elect of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick.  From his campaign slogan, "Together We Can" to asking people who have checked out of politics to "check back in" to running the most people powered, grass roots campaign in decades he is the true successor to RFK.  I remember RFK and his speeches...Deval Patrick has the same theme and message, he appeals not to people's greed or fear but to their hope.  The politics of hope, that is what RFK was about.  No politician since RFK has moved me so much, or given me so much hope for the future.  The MA State Dem. chair said of Deval, "He is a combination of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy".  Believe it!

I suggest you let Patrick be himself.

I'm excited about Patrick too. But he'll rise or fall on his own merits and accomplishments, not by a name or skin tone or comparison.

Let me note, so I don't give the wrong impression, that I've been guilty of this wishcasting and shoehorning myself, big-time. Eight years ago I thought Kathleen Kennedy Townsend--RFK's daughter, and then the just-re-elected Lt. Governor of Maryland--was going to win her own race for the Annapolis statehouse in 2002, coast to re-election this year, and become the first woman president forty years after her father's death. Squinting, you could see all those Bobby qualities: tough but compassionate, charismatic but appealingly aloof.

Instead, she got her ass kicked by Bob Ehrlich, and has disappeared from public life. I was obviously too credulous as to her virtues and totally blind to her flaws. We all do it.

but I thought Deval Patrick was a newcomer to politics and hasn't taken office yet? Can we let him develop a record of accomplishments before touting him for anything?
