of the courage he displayed while a prisoner of war, in Vietnam.  Particularly when he declined to be released ahead of other prisoners, because his father was an important person.

It takes a strong man, with deep convictions and unquestioned patriotism to withstand what he did.

That said, having seen so many Vietnam veterans utterly shattered, unable to take up their civilian lives again, still suffering from PTSD after all these years, I sometimes wonder if McCain was really, totally unscathed mentally and emotionally by his ordeal.  And I wonder how much his wartime experiences have colored his opinions, all these years later.  I mean him no disrespect.  I just . . . wonder.

But, sadly the McCain that was then is no more. Now he would sell off every little bit of his soul for a chance to be POTUS. I used to respect him as well, but now all I feel is disgust.

Shut it down is so yesterday. Now it's time to FIRE IT UP!

that Senator Straight Talk seems perfectly willing to insinuate, however subtly,  that his experience as a POW is a get-out-of_jail free card for every ethical and intellectual lapse he's been guilty of ever since he carpet-bagged his way into the seat that Barry Goldwater vacated.

refer to the retirement community Leisure World as "seizure world" during that first senate campaign?? Hey, POW over here. Whaddya gonna do, huh?

get caught wallowing in the trough with the rest of the Keating Five?  Hey, POW...

Suck up the same bunch of people who ratfucked him out of the 2000 campaign to keep his 2008 hopes alive?  POW

He and his supporters will try and shoehorn that in no matter how many times he proves to be an integrity-free, finger-to-the-wind "centrist" whore who will cop any position he can to position himself for a run at the White House.

    •  What About The Torture Bill? (0+ / 0-)

If you were tortured, how do you compromise and let your own nation torture its enemies?

Oh, right, the media says McCain took a 'principled stand.' Until he caved.
