      relation does not imply causation

      should be constantly kept in mind.

      Two examples:

      There is a strong positiv correlation between the number of firemen at a fire and the amount of damage (more firemen, more damage).

      Among young children there is a correlation between birth month and IQ.  This relationship fades with age, and disappears before adulthood.
