    by Frank J. Sulloway is a very interesting book in its own right.  But what I found so amazing in that tucked in the end notes is this wonderful introduction to social statistics.

    I took four quarters of stats in the early 70s at the University of Minnesota where they proudly claimed to have invented multiple regression analysis while developing the (in)famous MMPI.  I confess, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and used to advise EVERY young student to take as many stats courses as possible.

    Now I suggest that folks just read Sulloway's end notes if all they want is enough stats so they can follow a political debate in the news.  It is certainly all an informed layman needs.
