If a man with a bomb strapped to his chest fails to detonate the bomb, does that make his crime any less heinous? This man may have been a little dim (one could argue that about many of these right-wing ideologues who would attempt to blow up a clinic - right to life my ass!) but he still intended murder. That should be newsworthy (at least as newsworthy as a woman who gets cold feet just before her wedding and bails) and the point raised in this diary is that there is a cognitive disconnect in the media as to who is a bad guy and who isn't. As the diarist said, if this man's name had been Jousef or Mohammed, this would have been major news for weeks on all the major networks. That level of hypocrisy in our news should be distressing to EVERY American.

Next time it happens in the US give me a ring.  Hasn't happened yet.

      •  What about the attempted shoe bomber? (4+ / 0-)

We heard about that for months on end.

Then there was the "aborted plot" using liquid explosives, that caused the dumping of thousands of dollars worth of alcohol, makeup and bottled water that people wanted to bring on as carry-on luggage (I'm putting my makeup in my checked luggage just to be on the safe side tomorrow). As it turned out, most of the "terrorists" have been released by British authorities due to lack of evidence.

And let's not forget the aftermath of Oklahoma City, when there were reports of "Middle Eastern looking men" hanging around when the deed was put into action by good ol' American white boys.

Oh, but if it happens to a women's clinic, and not to an airline, a major financial institution or a government office, it's okay to bury it in the back pages...nothing to see here, just another chance to put women in their place, move along now...

I was going to answer your question with Richard Reid (The "shoe bomber") but CaliScribe said it much better than I would have. Sadly, I think you're still missing the point here.
