    and I've often wondered if having custodians do cleanup is in fact the best way of doing things?  I don't want to fight this battle, but it sometimes encourages our young people to believe they are not responsible for picking up after themselves.  All we have to do to realize the consequences of developing this kind of attitude is to take a look at some in the leadership of this country  :-)

      Kids could then spend  hours a day stuffing envelopes in "vocational training classes" to raise money to run the school, or run in squirrel cages to generate electricty.  I put nothing past Republicans to cripple school funding.

      Certainly I think the best teachers do a good job of emphasizing cleanup of obvious litter and things that the kids can handle, but there are some jobs that need to be done by someone older or experienced, at least a high school level student. Communal/non-classroom areas like bathrooms seem to be the biggest problem.
