    This was a seriously lost opportunity for the Dems to show some much-needed leadership on ethics in Congress.  The Foley scandal came to symbolize much of what was wrong with the Republican-controlled Congress, and the Dems could have made an important gesture to show that things were going to change when the new Congress starts and that they were going to get serious about ethics.  Instead, they punted, big time.

      ...were written by the Republicans. I've noted that the initial reports of the committee's conclusions were far kinder on Hastert than the actual report. Who did the "executive summary?" The Republicans or the (right wing) press?
