  •  Non-violent mortality rates (0+ / 0-)

One of the most interesting points in the testimony was the discovery of an upswing (I believe by 45,000) in the number of non-violent deaths for the final year under consideration. One of the authors said that might be a result of the breakdown in health services, as physicians increasingly flee the country or stay in their homes. They don't know yet if that data point is significant, but said it bears watching to see if it marks the beginning of a new trend. Obviously, that would be highly significant as Congress (and the international community) tries to decide how best to target aid for Iraq.
