In the spirit of "brushes with toppling fascists", I'll tell my story of kinda meeting Giuliani.

I was hanging out one fine late Summer 1999 day in the new City Hall Park adjoining the "unfightable" old facade building. After deciding it was for tourists, I got up to walk across to the subway station on Broadway. As I left my bench, I could see Giuliani ("Skeletor", as we called the tyrant) striding across the park, away from the building that stored his power. He was leading his security detail, who trailed behind him several steps. After a few steps I realized we were headed for a collision. I didn't grope in my pocket for a Swiss Army knife, because I didn't carry one back in the naive days of the late 20th Century. Instead, I doublestepped up into Giuliani's way. I stepped quickly right past him, turned my head right into his face, and barked

    NO DANCING!

He seemed stunned in the split second I looked at him. I hustled out of the park before anyone realized I'd just nearly tripped the dictator. I made it down the subway steps, and onto a train. And I lived to tell the tale.

Giuliani later became popular on TV in the more comfortable surroundings he prefers: collapsing buildings and suicidal terrorists, constant mayhem and apocalyptic political rhetoric. And the occasional drag show.
