wanted to chat alone, he delighted in surprising Bob with an unexpected or off-topic observation and getting a reaction.

Bob's book about their relationship describes that.

    •  Edwards "delighted" himself, mainly. (0+ / 0-)

All good conversalists need a foil. But Barber deserved a much better foil than the leadfooted, dimwitted, stick-to-the-script Edwards.

If Edwards claimed that his questions "delighted" Red, then let me quote Mandy Rice-Davies: "Well, he would, wouldn't he?"

Note please that the book was originally titled "The Colonel and the Redhead." Note also who got first billing: Edwards, who being from Louisville was dubbed "Colonel" (as in Kentucky colonel) by Barber.

Must not have tested well with that title, because the book eventually issued by Simon & Schuster was titled "Fridays with Red."

If yer trying to sell books by borrowing interest from a sappy Mitch Albom book, it ain't much of a book.

Did anyone read Edwards's more recent book, the one on Ed Murrow?
