  •  I agree with you, but for one thing.... (0+ / 0-)

Leiberman is no longer a "Democrat in Name Only".  He is no longer a Democrat in any sense - he is a CT for Leiberman "independent".

Even if he caucuses with the Dems he is still not a Democrat.  And, unlike Bernie Saunders, Joe has already stated that his reason for caucusing with the Dems is so he can maintain his seniority, which Reid promised him.

I also think he takes great pleasure in being the one to hold the sword of Damocles over our heads.

So Joe is many things - but he is no longer a DINO.

Any party that would lie to start a war would also steal an election.

    •  Lieberman refers to himself as (0+ / 0-)

an "Independent Democrat" and has promised to caucus with the Dems.

The only benefit the Repubs could offer JL is a committee chair.  In 2007, he will chair the Homeland Security Committee.  He considers himself the "father of the Department of the Homeland Security", so why would he give up that chair?

Susan Collins of Maine will be the ranking member of the HS Committee.  Why would she want to give that up for JL, should he switch?  She can read election returns as well as any politician-she can see that New England Repubs are very endangered.  If JL switches, she could decide to switch as well.  Do you think there are any other Repub Senator who would volunteer to give up a committee chair for Lieberman?

Don't be so afraid of what Lieberman will do.

My fear is that Shrub will name JL to a Cabinet job, allowing the Repub Gov to appoint a Repub to JL's seat.  Of course, that may not be such a big deal, as this diary outlined.
