    That is a right-wing talking point, but it doesn't hold up when you compare it to any other human activities.

    Let's say you're a manufacturer, and a defect got through your inspection procedure. Now you have to issue a product recall. That's a failure, not a success.

    Let's say that you have a sprinkler system in a building, and there is a fire, but the sprinklers don't go off. The fire department arrives, and puts out the fire before the building is destroyed. That's a failure, not success.

    A defect in an airliner goes undetected until it causes a near-disaster on flight. Despite the fact that the pilot got the plane to the ground with no loss of life, it's still a failure, not success.

    Catching a failure before the impact of the failure causes catastrophic results is still a failure.

    Dick Cheney shot a guy in the face, but the guy lived. That's a hunting failure, not a success.

    It is the job of thinking people not to be on the side of the executioners.
