Question: If Dean is the Democrat nominee will the NRA still shell out big bucks for Bush's re-election campaign?

I think the organization is solidly behind Bush, but the members won't be as willing to donate as they were when it was Gore V Bush.  Dean fights at the blue collar level and the rank and file will know he doesn't have an anti-gun record or agenda.

The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whetherwe provide enough for those who have to little. -FDR

Well that is the 87 Billion dollar question isnt it?

The NRA gave Dean an A rating, so if they come out hard against him it would tend to prove they were a partisan front.

I think Dean takes the NRA out of play which is a huge underestimated dynamic.

Especially with the Dean can't win the south eletist crowd.

Disclaimer: I am from the south

Bush supports the Assault weapons ban. Thats a big negative to the NRA. Dean's position on gun control should take the NRA out of it or actually have them supporting the democratic nominee.

I frequent a gun board though not in the last month. There are more rethugs there but dems also and theyre VERY upset with the republican party for giving them the shaft. Watch for the AWB reauthorisation. If it passes and bush signs it, it becomes Very Very bad news for the gop. They'll lose massive numbers of 2nd amendment advocates. Even the hard right people. There is a core who are at heart fascists/neonazis of course who would vote bush if he had 666 tattooed on his forehead. But most 2nd amendment people are more libertarian than anything and were conned by the gop pretense at libertarian values and elitists like Schumer and Feinstein telling them they were evil for owning guns.

We need to Really truely understand this. Deans stance on gun control truely could put the south-east back into play again. We really could achieve Deans' stated goal of taking the House, Senate and Presidency.
