college students cleaning up last spring break.
That, and he's been running around the country talking about NOLA and poverty practically every day.  And he's got a Center on Poverty and Opportunity at the U of NC that has developed concrete plans to help the working poor of NOLA and America.  So, it's not in any way opportunistic.

The theme of this campaign will be Americans working together to build One America.  It will be a splash of cold water on America reminding it of Katrina, poverty and the struggling middle class and telling Americans that they have to work on their "better angels" and help each other, even to sacrifice for each other.  It's a message totally at odds with the Republican culture of everyone for themselves.

"We need to ask America to adopt a new kind of patriotism, a patriotism about something more than just war." -- John Edwards

I appreciate the attention he's given to poverty, but I'm tired of pols from all points of the spectrum using Louisiana and the Gulf Coast as stumps for their speeches, whether it's Bush in Jackson Square or this plan to use eastern New Orleans as a place to announce his candidacy.

I only hope that something good comes out of it.

      •  Is there flooding going on in NOLA? (0+ / 0-)

I heard something about the river rising around there.

I understand what you're saying, Gutterboy. After getting only lip service from some of the schumucks who've been through your city, you've lost faith that they mean anything they say.

Senator Edwards, within days of the flood, created and offered a plan for NOLA. It was a really good plan filled with ideas to create opportunity, reduce poverty, and rebuild her better than before for the people who actually live and work there (not for corporate cronies). It was obvious that he cared more than any of those others - he went straight to work, creating  common sense solutions. We aren't used to authenticity and caring in our leaders because they haven't proven out to be authentic or caring.

Give Senator Edwards a chance to show you he means every word he says, because I believe he does. I believe that he chose your city because he feels the justice you deserve in his heart.

It is as if that is all we are to them  But I am willing to give Edwards a chance.  He did do more than any other politician that came to the city.  And any time we can remind America that things are still very far from fixed is alright in my book.
