The first post on this outrageously bigoted publication brought on a firestorm of comments from people who claimed to be liberal but sent money to the NRA.

There was a time (in my memory) when the NRA's main activities were devoted to gun use, hunting and conservation. The group has been infiltrated by the wingnuts, and their activities are totally incompatible with progressive politics--despite what they claim. Their sales of mailing lists and advertising links cause even greater harm.

Thank you for showing this, and for your digging. Is it actually published, or is there a chance that when it actually comes out the "NRA" identification may not be on it?

Wayne LaPierre called ATF agents "jackbooted thugs"? And suggested that law--abiding Americans might have to use deadly force to defend themselves against same? That and their support for selling Teflon--jacketed Black Talon ammunition, a body--armor penetrating round, to the general public, cost them a lot of support from sane gun owners and sportsmen (not to mention cops), and caused Bush 41 to quit the organization.

The wingnuts and gun manufacturers took over the NRA a long time ago.

What's the difference between Vietnam and Iraq? Bush knew how to get out of Vietnam.

      •  Why is the black talon so much worse... (0+ / 0-)

...than the Golden Saber? Be specific.

      •   Boy did you get suckered! (0+ / 0-)

Black Talons weren't Teflon coated and weren't really any different than any other JHP ammunition on the market.
The ATF: Perhaps you should review their charter, mission, and legal history before drawing conclusions about their detractors.
Finally, this unquestioning obeisance you're displaying towards the government:
Funny, I didn't hear that tone when Dubya was tapping your phones, imprisoning Americans without due process, etc.

I don't know where you got all this "info" from, but I'll give you credit; you sure do seem to believe it.

I did some searching on the Black Talon and found that media reports at the time were highly inaccurate, to say the least. No surprise there, I guess. I stand corrected.

             From the ATF website:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is a principal law enforcement agency within the United States Department of Justice dedicated to preventing terrorism, reducing violent crime, and protecting our Nation. The men and women of ATF perform the dual responsibilities of enforcing Federal criminal laws and regulating the firearms and explosives industries. We are committed to working directly, and through partnerships, to investigate and reduce crime involving firearms and explosives, acts of arson, and illegal trafficking of alcohol and tobacco products.

I know all about Ruby Ridge and Waco. They fucked up badly. But  LaPierre is out of line comparing these guys to "goosestepping Nazis". That kind of rhetoric does nothing to advance the discussion. I am, by the way, a gun owner and supporter of gun rights.

             Unquestioning obeisance? Sheesh.

          •  It's a start... (0+ / 0-)

But did you know that the ATF is actually a tax-collection agency? It's true; they report directly to the treasury dept. And they have their own air force.
You see, there are many things you've been misled about regarding gun control, from Black Talons to "undetectable" plastic Glocks to .50BMG rifles as terrorist weapons.
I would encourage you to take the time to research the subject yourself and separate the fact from the rhetoric.
