  •  There's a distinction to be made... (6+ / 0-)

between the Administration and the average Joe and Jane voter. You can fight the Administration without sinking to its level.

But you cannot persuade voters by screaming in their faces that they themselves are evil murdering lying bastards. 'Cause it's not true, and it doesn't persuade anyone to vote for better policies if you're red-faced and screaming insults with the foam flecks flying out of your mouth.

Winning elections takes more than snark. It takes grit, determination, and good, smart organizing. But you can't win a single vote by start out with a slap in the voters' faces. Demonizing voters just is counterproductive; look, do you want to go back to losing elections?

      Well said.

Those are definitely two entirely different topics, in my opinion.

This is exactly the point I was trying to make.  jhutson just did it far more succinctly :)

Who cares what we discuss here on DKos if we can't get voters to vote our way?  It's all pointless preaching to the choir if we can't gain the majority or can't keep it once we have it.

If the average voter sees Nancy Pelosi taking cheap shots at the Republicans and sending them to the basement, or whatever, they will think less of us as a party and will be less open to listening to our point of view.  Appearances matter when all these voters see is 30 seconds on the national news.

We have to be different from the Republican, not only in our ideology, but in our behavior to win over the crowd.

I never said that's how we should go after it.

However, a little truth would be a nice thing from, say, our so-called liberal "media?"

You know, most people aren't seeing the truth.  Here are a few photos that illustrate things that many people haven't seen.  No "flying spittle" required.

You mean people get hurt and killed in a war??? Egads!  Why didn't the media tell me?!?!?! 'Cause, you know...I can't find out anything at all without the media spoonfeeding it to me.
