They prefer letters under 200 words.

The Manchester Journal-Inquirer (who just published my Lieberman bashing letter a few days ago!)

They like letters between 350-500 words (yes, that big), but will consider shorter letters as well.

      To the Editor:

I was surprised to see an editorial by Connecticut's Senator Lieberman in today's Washington Post. It seems that now one of Connecticut's Senators is speaking for the White House on Iraq policy. He has spoken as I might have imagined Secretary Gates to have spoken as an Administration proponent in favor of escalation in Iraq.

As an Administration spokesperson, Senator Lieberman is speaking to the whole nation. Therefore I am asking the Courant, as a major newspaper in the State of Connecticut, to register my displeasure with Senator Lieberman's editorial on his home turf. I realize the Senator was the subject of much critical debate prior to the November elections, and his conduct since November has heightened that criticism into a national debate.

Senator Lieberman's editorial directly opposes the will of our nation and that of many Connecticut voters on Iraq. Iraq has bankrupt the US morally and financially, yet Connecticut's Senator continues to advocate for failed US policy in Iraq.

My sincere hope is that the good voters of Connecticut join me in letting Senator Lieberman know that his pandering to the Administration is unacceptable. Senator Lieberman is not the voice of Connecticut or his nation on Iraq policy.

Somebody a lot wiser than me said that writing letters to the editor are one of the most effective ways for people to make a statement - the letters sections are often widely read and reflect what the people are feeling.
