  •  This is different though (4+ / 0-)

There was only talk of faithless electors because Gore had won the popular vote.  When Jeffords switched, it was out of principle and it was in line with the voting trends.  The Democrats had gained 4 seats in the Senate.  The Democrats had won the popular vote.  Yet Republicans controlled all three branches of government.  In this case, Republicans get tossed out of office all over Pennsylvania.  Btw, it's a huge surprise since they really redistricted in 2001 to protect all these seats and had a huge majority.  Now the Republicans lose and one lone Democrat decides to simply overturn the results.  Not okay.

Btw, it's a huge surprise since they really redistricted in 2001 to protect all these seats and had a huge majority.

It's very hard to gerrymander small districts, so this actually isn't surprising to me. If we had gained substantially in the State Senate (districts four times larger), I would have been surprised. If Republicans had done a competent job at drawing the Congressional lines (districts about 12 times as large as State House districts), they would've held the 4th, 6th, and 8th easily.
