  •  What about bipartisanship? (0+ / 0-)

Your statement about it being a team sport greatly minimizes the effect and importance of bipartisanship.  As long as we think in terms of Democrat/Progressive = Right and Republican/Conservative = Wrong, we don't get anywhere as a government.

I recognize that I don't know all the facts in this specific case, but in general, I would expect that a representative will do what he/she believes to be in the best interest of their constituents.  I may be a bit naive about it, but that is what I expect and desire.

After reading your comment at the end regarding the makeup of his constituency, I'm less apt to defend his actions regarding what is theoretically possible and defensible.  Unless Mr. Perzel is advocating reforms that would greatly help the people whom Mr. Caltagirone, I might just start to suspect the motives here are less than altruistic.

    •  Perzel Opposes Affirmative Action, Black History (4+ / 0-)

John Perzel is just about the guy who is least sympathetic to the many minority groups in Reading.

Perzel has voted to end all affirmative action programs not required by the federal government, voted to make English the official language of Pennsylvania against the strongly expressed will of many Latino communities, and was the only Philadelphia elected official to attack the Philadelphia school district--over 80% nonwhite--for requiring students to take a social studies course in black history.

Progressive Democrats have done a lot of good for our country in the past, and can do a lot more in the future. Let's keep going strong.
