From What to Eat by NYU's Marion Nestle:

"If crops are grown without pesticides, it seems self-evident that fewer pesticides will get into the soil and water, foods will contain less of them, and people who eat organic foods will have lower levels of pesticides in their bodies.  Plenty of research confirms these obvious connections.  Organically grown foods do have lower levels of pesticides, and children and adults who eat them have lower levels in their bodies."

That's why I insist on, and try to provide, links to third-party information. Primary sources whenever possible. That's the only way to get useful information from Internet discussions.

The obesity epidemic and the meat industry's use of growth hormones seem to go hand in hand whether any corporate funded "study" wants to say so or not.  To me the burden of proof is on those who manipulate and alter nature, not on nature.

      •  A disturbing anecdote. (0+ / 0-)

I know someone who worked on a family farm 'finishing' beef cattle.  One of the treatments incoming steers got was an injection of bovine growth hormone.  It's a very common practice in 'conventional' animal husbandry.  Long story short, he accidentally got the injection one time instead of the steer.  It may well be responsible for some of his health problems which include morbid obesity.

It's hard to draw any conclusions from one example, but just from his case, I have to wonder what really is in the injections they sell on the street as 'steroids'.  Who knows if people aren't pushing BGH as a wonder drug to teenagers.

We must never lose it, or sell it, or give it away. We must never let them take it from us.
