  •  All I care about is that it's 55 in New York (5+ / 0-)

I am terrified. The people I meet seem to be more terrified than I am.

At some level: goodbye Republicans, good riddance.

At another level: all I care about, really, is that lawmakers take some kind of sane, honest approach to issues such as Iraq and that they figure out if we've really broken the weather, and, if we've broken the weather, that they see if there's something that can be done about fixing the weather.

Iraq is important, and, if we can't fix that, it's hard to see how we can fix the weather, but Iraq is about the United States getting into an idiotic conflict and causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, including a few thousands of our own citizens.

Pollution-triggered climate change may possibly be about whether the surface of the Earth ends up like the surface of Mars, or of Venus, or of both, and about whether ANY of us have living great-great-grandchildren. Pollution-triggered climate change is about whether cockroaches inherit the earth, or if they die out, too, and the actual inheritors are bacteria.

If slamming Republicans can help us fix the weather, then slam them. If slamming them somehow takes time away from the issue or restricts our ability to win them over on this issue, then that's a problem.

Also: if Arnold or even Joseph Lieberman understands the importance of this issue, and will make serious efforts to prevent the end of life on earth, then we have to swallow our distaste and work with people like that. And I understand that tough love approaches may be more effective at herding the Republicans along than kindness or good manners. The Democrats have to do what will work. But we have to do what will work on this issue, whatever "what works" happens to be.

If all registered Democratic voters simultaneously hula dancing on the Washington Mall will bring about action on this issue, put in an order for 100 million hula skirts. Immediately.

(Pombo, Inhofe, others) to allow room for the more moderate Republicans to be heard, else those with sense get drowned out by the assholes...

because it makes us happy. There is no time for personal glee right now. There is only time for deciding whether we have living great-grandchildren.
