    He should just be fired with no severance, just like any other employee who screws up.

      "any other employee(s) who screw up" don't have contracts, and the terms of the contracts need to be honored. The problem is with the Board of Directors who cut the deal with him.

        has a contract that states they are "employees at will" and may be terminated at any time without cause.  To make it seem mutually beneficial, there is usually also wording to the effect that the employee is allowed to quit at any time without cause.

        Beware the everyday brutality of the averted gaze.
