          Tupac, KRS One, Public Enemy, Geto Boys, &tc. They always had scathing social commentary in their music. Their music was substantive.

          Nowadays, we have TI, Young Jeezy, Lil' Wayne, and Jay-Z, the pro-corporate mercantilist ("capitalist") rappers. Their job is to sell people on fashionable consumption, aspirational consumerism, and hedonism. It is disgraceful.

          Of course, this is just another manifestation of the agenda of the public relations industry. It is designed to breed a hedonistic, egocentric, aspirational culture of people who adhere to the market-driven morality, even if they are not shareholders. It is all about short-term competitive success and self-interested pursuit of fashionable material wealth.
