  •  Write a letter to the editor... (9+ / 0-)

...both email and snail mail form. Go to the comments section of your local online newspapers/news sources and write there.

Don't get depressed. Write. Half the country wants to read what you're saying.

    •  Letters to the editors are fine, but I want (7+ / 0-)

the news to reach people like my mom who say so often "How come I never hear any of what you tell me on the news or see it in the paper?"

I want what is happening to filter down to the masses through official media sources so people will realize that what they are hearing is not just one person's opinion or what a bunch of bloggers are talking about.

I want the media to report news. Is that too much to expect?

....iniative to demand different types of stories. That's why the established media dislikes the internet blogs so much, because with thousands of people adding reading and adding content to a story, they cannot control or censor the editorial point of view so much. And it highlights their bias and their lap dogging of the Administration.

As for you mom, ....there's a lot of people who just won't make any effort to go outside the comfort zone and they want to be spoon fed everything. But at least she's hearing things from you, so you're having some impact. Many people just don't have an inquisitive mind, nor have they ever had any thing interesting (as in the Chinese curse "may you live in interesting times") happen to them.

We've only had TV around as a widespread cultural phenomenon of information sharing for around what, 50 years? Computers, what, about 10, maybe 15 years as a primary communications source? TV is an extremely passive medium, the internet is an extremely interactive one. So to be heard more interaction is going to be necessary on our parts.
