Global warming is inevitably a political and science issue.  Arguing about the science of it in trivial "junk science" terms is a distraction.  One group is asking science questions like- how can you tell how cold it was 400 years ago.  Ice cores, deep sea cores and other methods with deposition covering the coldness of the winter.  However, this person doesn't believe we can draw a reliable inference from that data.  Then they comment that, the glaciers are melting on Mars- which is surely harder data to collect accurately over 400 years.  So clearly these commenters are grasping for straws and any piece of data that supports their political stance.

Many people posting here do not want to believe humanity has had any negative effect on the face of the earth or its climate.  The minute they acknowledge that pollution is harmful, pesticides are harmful, or warming up the climate is harmful and caused by human activity, then they have to decide what to do about it.  And they have been told that making changes will affect the life they want to lead- driving Humvees and eating beef.   An earlier poster said, "We will not see our families go without the things they need because some polar bears that might die. "  So opposition to environmentalism is part and parcel of opposition to global warming science.  It is not possible for some people to agree that unfettered economic freedom of corporations should be constrained by political policy.

Thanks for this diary.  Somehow the whole controversy had escaped me until I saw this rescued.
