  •  It's hard to say (5+ / 0-)

what the Iraqis were trying to do in 1999. It would seem they would be after the yellowcake, but on the other hand they already had their own.

Personally I think it was just a convienient piece of circumstantial evidence which didn't add up to much but would sound ominous when properly linked to bogus aluminum tubes and "mushroom clouds".

The fact that Wilson found out what was totally frackin' obvious, that the yellowcake wasn't even available, that puts the Bush spin into the spotlight and that was the problem. Plus they hated him for political reasons, and at that point they thought they were God and could get away with popping a CIA agent to keep all the others quiet.

not only did they have their own, in great quantities (but still insufficient to make anything out of it), but if it was such a big deal, why didn't we care that our own actions made their stores of yellowcake available to any looter who came across them?

      •  Why wasn't the existing yellowcake that (0+ / 0-)

was in Iraq removed by the UN when they were there before 1999?

          because it's a biproduct of non-weapons processes.

The IAEA knew exactly where all of it was and had it under control.  No one was trying to make weapons out of it.

We pulled the inspectors out, and went it and disrupted everything, and all hell broke loose.  The seals were broken and the barrels removed.

Just like all the explosives that were unsealed and disappeared.

Had these clowns actually given a crap about weapons proliferation or nuclear materials getting loose/misused, they would not have created an excuse to run into Iraq without planning to protect these stores.

One goal for Bush:  Kill Saddam
One goal for Cheney:  Redistribute oil revenues, oops another goal:  enrich his own company.

And therefore even if Saddam HAD in fact "tried" to secure yellowcake, they really didn't give a damn.  It was stated to scare us into supporting their sickening goals.

          •  One correction - the inspectors (0+ / 0-)

were ordered out by Clinton. Then once again by Cheney.
