  •  Licensing gave us the iMac (0+ / 0-)

    A substantial amount of the technical work than happened in the ROM licensing effort turned out to be enabling technology for the iMac and what followed. It required a lot of abstraction and flexibility in the low-level software that had not existed previously.

    It is telling that the engineers responsible for the technical side of licensing were not laid off when Apple abruptly pulled the plug on licensing.  On the contrary, that team of engineers became the core of iMac effort.

    In retrospect, OS X is far better than Copeland ever hoped to be.  That's just my personal opinion.
