and going to put together a presentation about this.  Normally I get to paid to do this (e.g.  Why Search Engine Marketing is important to your evil Corporation and how i can help you become that much more dominant and Evil).   But to redeem my soul I want to try to help the Democrats get a jump on this.

However, many people in business are still oblivious to this so I'm not expecting people in politics to be ready to jump into it.  To use to the old game of TV ads and direct mail.  And as we know the consultants who control all this are old school.   Most of the top political consultants probably have no clue about this.

In my local paper there was an article about how businesses in our area are just starting to think about the web to reach people.  You might think, "hey, you probably live in some backwater town".   I would think that reading this article.  I live in capitol of NY (albany for those that didn't learn the capitols in school, like me).   Check out this quote:

"We're seeing a lot more e-commerce sites coming through in the last six months," he said. "I think people are beginning to adopt online sales, and they're feeling more secure with it."

Beginning to adopt online sales?  In 2007?  Wow.  There is still a huge upside to reaching people via search engines.   We need to be first.  I'm sure i could reach people at pennies on a dollar compared to TV ads.  And i would get them to a website where they could 1)  watch the same ad and 2)  Get a whole lot more info.

We could set up a 527 (?) and raise funds to place search ads. And maybe do some SEO analysis and offer the results to campaigns.

Check out this project by the Drum Major Institute that used search ads to inform voters about their reps. This is the kind of creativity that can be brought to campaigns and advocacy.

And great work, by the way. Keep us all posted.

i knew about the DMI campaign.   Never saw any follow up on their results.   Perhaps they would rather keep that to themselves.

I'm in contact with one other Dkos member who makes a living doing SEO.   He also wants to help.  Perhaps we could rally some more people to the cause and start a Dkos SEO/SEA group.  Maybe a seminar at Ykos?   If you want to toss out ideas i'm at onemadson at earthlink dot net.

        •  Too late for a seminar at yKos. (1+ / 0-)

I had already been looking into something about Artists and Social Movements.

I'll be in touch. I really think there is some potential here for something that is both effective and cheap.

            one of my other interests.

If ykos isn't talking about search engines in 2007 that is a mistake.   Or perhaps this stuff should be more behind the scenes so the other side isn't lifting the ideas.

if there isn't a comprehensive search engine marketing strategy in place by mid 2007, the opportunity for the 2008 elections will be greatly underutilized.
