    terms of use/permissions/FAQ documents on a site to see what it is that they want.  So want you to link back to their site, and say so.  Others want you to download the image.  The thing is, you shouldn't just be out there linking and downloading without taking the time to find out what kind of a site you're at and what their terms of use are.  If you actually find out about a site and what it is that they require in order to use their images, and you do what they ask, then you should have no problems.

      Almost every site will either have a Terms of Use section, or alternatively just a notice that the entire site is copyright protected.  Takes very little time to check out.

      When it comes to modern artists/photographers with galleries on their own web sites, their permissions vary greatly, some have almost no objections, some allow no use what so ever, while others allow limited use.  Always read first to find out.  :>)
