  •  The Trinity UCC "Black Value System" (5+ / 0-)
If you want to know what the controversy is about, here is a link to the portion of the Trinity UCC website that sets forth the 12 points of the "Black Value System" that it has endorsed since 1981.  Here are the 12 points:

    1. Commitment to God
    2. Commitment to the Black Community
    3. Commitment to the Black Family
    4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
    5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
    6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
    7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
    8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness"
    9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
    10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions
    11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
    12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.

It's truly amazing that conservatives, who are the very people who are constantly harping on the importance of family values, hard work, education, self-discipline, and the community, find it somehow threatening when a predominantly black church does the same thing.

Actually, I guess it's NOT amazing at all; it simply confirms the suspicion I've long had that what many of these people want to do is to use the alleged absence of these characteristics in the black community to explain that their supposed absence, rather than continuing discrimination, is the reason for economic inequality in this country.  They don't want to actually SOLVE these problems where they exist; they simply want to use them as weapons to justify a state of facts that would otherwise be intolerable.

Makes remarks about the black community taking responsibilty for their own and to stop blaming whites for every problem, conservatives give him a big "Attaboy".

It seems to me that the 12 points listed above are similar to what Cosby has been saying for years.  Yet, a conservative twit like Carlson implies that it is racist for black people to take responsibilty for their own.
