  •  And NAFTA bankrupting small farms . . . (0+ / 0-)

. . . in Mexico. Farmers end up having to either let their families go hungry head head for El Norte. My comment upthread with a link to an article about the impact of NAFTA on Mexican farmers - and how NAFTA is directly responsible for many of the migrants - who would really very much prefer to stay home, but the impact of American agricultural products flooding Mexican markets has made it impossible for them to survive by farming.

The only thing Republicans do well is take our tax dollars and transfer them to the rich, instead of providing the services we thought we were paying for.

is horrifically inefficient.  To step into the 20th century, let alone the 21st, requires wide-spread restructuring.  Failure to do that would result in Mexicans maintaining a 19th century economy (which entails a 19th century standard of living).

Restructuring is painful - this is one of those areas that doesn't have an easy answer.
