To defund the war does NOT take a "veto-proof majority".  That's just BS the Dems are spreading to try to explain their lack of action.

Bush is currently requesting supplemental appropriations to fund the war.  This bill can be fillibustered in the Senate.

So, all it takes is 41 Senators to say NO, and its over.

Same for the regular Pentagon appropriations when it comes around later this year.  41 Senators can fillibuster it until it contains an iron-clad prohibition on funding the war.

In the House, since the Dems control the leadership and the Rules committee, they have a great deal of control over what reaches the floor and gets acted on.  The Dem leadership could say today that neither the supplemental request nor the regular Pentagon appropriation could come to a floor vote without an end to this war.  (That could be bypased by a majority of the House, but at least we'd know who the traitor-Dems are that are that willing to continuing pushing the support for this war).

So, this comment is just completely wrong.  The Dems could end this war today if they wanted.  The point is, they obviously don't want to end this war.

"I will not vote for or support any candidate for Congress or President who does not support a speedy end to the war in Iraq."
