    That was the vision of the Founding Fathers, and a key part of the Democracy they thought they were creating for us who've followed.

    No Standing Army.  Defense is provided by a citizens militia.

    This leaves the power of force that's available to the state in the hands of the citizens.  

    Picture what would happen to this war if each unit was not only filled with volunteer soldiers, but the community itself had to approve the use of the militia in a war.  In that case, this war would have been over at least a year ago.

    That's the vision of Democracy our Founding Fathers had.  They correctly identified a permanent standing army as a threat to the freedom and liberty of the citizens of this country.
