  •  Sabbath "work" okay in some instances (0+ / 0-)

Slightly different twist on what Jesus said:

And there in front of Him was a man suffering from dropsy.  And Jesus answered and spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?"  But they kept silent. And He took hold of him and healed him, and sent him away.  And He said to them, "Which one of you will have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?"  And they could make no reply to this.  Luke 14:2-6

So ... Lieberman evidently understands the "concept" of necessary "work" on the Sabbath, such as saving a child (innocent) or an ox (financial asset).

So I wonder if he's concerned about the innocents or the finances.

P.S.  Appropo to this particular situ:  An old farmer is reputed to have said, "If I had an ox that kept falling in the ditch, I would either shoot the ox or fill the ditch!"
