First off, I and many others who post here are working our tails off to create an infrastructure that will help Democratic candidates win in the future.  From Dogcatcher to President, I want Democrats who run to be able to win.  It is totally unrealistic to expect that we will do this work and not voice an opinion on the direction of the party or the eventual presidential nominee.

Speaking personally, my motivation for building the Democratic party from the grassroots up is that I want more and better candidates to vote for.  That does not come from being "civil and united" before the primary, especially if those are code words that really mean "sit down, shut up and stay in your place."  I'm speaking my mind now and I'll get behind the nominee later, as I suspect most of us will.

Secondly, I disagree with this statement

our reputation right now is of impotent, bickering infighters

What looks like bickering from the outside is actually a healthy, robust exchange of ideas, and I just don't get the impotent part at all.  Feel free to inform me.

in seven years and have had to live off republican table scraps.  impotent to stop insane judicial nominations or batshit crazy signing statements.  we haven't been able to introduce legislation, and even with both houses blue with hope, we are still working on non-binding resolutions to poke at troop surges.

like it or not, the public does not yet see the big S under our shirt.  we're only here because we aren't republicans.  that's it.  we have a long way to go and pettiness - even perceived - is our kryptonite.

i am not bitching, only reading the country's EKG strip and offering an obvious diagnosis and therapy.

i recommend healthy, robust exchange of ideas, but bullshit top-down hit pieces and baa-baa chatter about non-issue is not productive and is only robust in its obsessive persistence.

you very much should work your ass off from the precinct captain level all the way through your county party on up unite the divides and pave the way for well meaning citizens to play their part in the system.  i sure as hell do.  that's where the real people power is.  but, throwing feces on dirty laundry and rubbing it in the face of the public does not come across as anything but juvenile bickering.

keep it civil and just like the rules of posts on this site are supposed to be observed, none of the ad hominem "coronation" bullshit rovian attacks or the endless chatter blaming anyone on our fucking side of being responsible for the goddamn bush mess.

except lieberman.  but, he's not democratic, nor is he running.  fire away at that schmuck all day.
