  •  Got 4 fillings for $12 in the Czech . Rep. (6+ / 0-)

And it wasn't $12 a piece, either. Of course, that was 7 years ago, before Bush dropped the dollar into the toilet. (don't ask how I got so many cavities at once- suffice it to say that the Czechs are into the 'Purity of Essence" thing as far as their drinking water is concerned.)

Leaving aside that complaint: What I think was really amazing, though, was that, a year later, one of my teeth was feeling very sensitive and I thought I had another problem. I went to the dentist, and he banged on my tooth asking if the banging hurt.  I said 'no'.  He put some very cold chemical on my tooth and asked if it was painful.  It wasn't.  He put some hot dental tool on my tooth and asked if I was unusually uncomfortable.  I wasn't.

He said that that I just had a sensitive tooth, not a cavity, and said I should put some fluoride on it. I felt relieved but a little silly, and I asked him how much this futile visit would cost me.

He looked surprised. "But I didn't do anything", he said as he showed me the door.
