  •  Coast Guard forgot about seamanship (1+ / 0-)

There is no interest in continuing  training in the inspection of wooden vessels in the Coast Guard anymore. Another sign that scholarship in fundamental seamanship is not respected. Pizza delivery school of military service.

    have we hit bottom yet?

    •  Huh? Explain, please. I'm a CG auxiliarist (0+ / 0-)

and even endured Ashton Kutcher because I wanted to see a movie that honored the Coasties (it's about time!)

      •   vessels have to pass CG inspecion (0+ / 0-)

I heard from the Story baotyard here in Mass. (they have been building boats for a coulpe of hundred years)that the CG has no personel to inspect wooded boats and isnt interested in training any to do it. Its interest in preservation of the wood boat industry is nill. Its so unfair and its a slap in the face of historical resteration projects whos boats will never sail again because they wont get inspected. You could go the Netherlands today and other countries and see fleets of working wood boats, whose beauty and seaworthyness surpass the floating metal boxes the CG seems to love. Find out more from someone who knows better than I about this, its just my understanding from an interest in a resteration projece here in Gloucester of a fishing schooner.

        •  Thanks (I think). I'll have to research the story (0+ / 0-)

and see what's up. I'd hope this state of affairs is because the perennially strapped CG doesn't have the money (it went to the glorious adventure in Eye-raq), but who knows?
