    If "waste feedstock" that is currently used for animal feed is replaced with soy oil instead (in animal feed) then the biofuel "yield" from the "waste" is the same as the "yield" for the soy oil (with minor adjustment for processing costs).

    Only if that "waste feedstock" were truly being wasted (and not already re-cycled) would using it for biofuel show any advantage.  As you note, biofuel is all about finding feedstock with significant positive yield over the coal (electricity) or petro-oil used to produce it.
