Don't sweat Al Gore getting in the race.  He's just not going to do it if any of you can give him a reason not to.

How do you give him a reason to stay out?  Give him a proxy.  Get out front on Climate Change. Take Gore's message to heart and make it a centerpiece of your campaigns. The public is sick of the prevaricating of this administration on the environment.

The election in '08 won't hinge on environmental issues.  But they can be THE defining issue in motivating a huge portion of your base to get up and out and into the voting booths, especially in the West.

It helps you in the primary by keeping the 800 pound gorilla out of the race and will help you in the general by getting a greater portion of your base out.

Don't do it for the next generations, don't do it because its the right thing to do.  Do it for the damn votes, stupid.

I'm not sure Gore is the 800 poung gorilla some here think.  He would probably get a majority of the netroots, but might struggle among primary voters at large.

I do think that he's doing great things and I do think that you're right that being green will help Al think the Party is in good hands.

But, Edwards already is out in front of this.  He's running on 5 Main Issues and one is:

Leading the Fight against Global Warming and Our Addiction to Foreign Oil
Our nation's dependence on oil and other fossil fuels is contributing to global warming and jeopardizing our national security. To protect our future, John Edwards believes that Americans must be patriotic about something other than the war. We must act now by investing in clean, renewable energies like wind, solar, and biofuels to create a new energy economy, developing a new generation of efficient cars and trucks, and putting new energy-saving technologies to work in buildings, transportation, and industry.

PS: Cohen is still a jackass.
