  •  I'm familiar with the guy... (0+ / 0-)

and somewhat sympathetic to him but I'm not too impressed with his ability to deliver votes for himself!  The 43rd might have been a liberal stronghold at one time, but Reagan carried it in '84.  It's all about the $$$ around those parts.

    •  Didnt Reagan carry the entire city? (0+ / 0-)

      I'm only 26, so I dont know.

I remember reading in the history books about how Reagan just dominated everywhere with the Morning in America theme.

Lincoln Park is a unique neighborhood. I'm a DePaul grad who stayed in the neighborhood and works downtown.

Politically, there are more Republicans in the ward than Lakeview but its still a Democratic stronghold these days.

If you want to see an excess of money in the 43rd look on the streets south of Armitage west of Sheffield and you can see the MEGA McMansions. Read here, and especially here

      •  Chicago for Reagan? (0+ / 0-)

I don't even think he carried the 42nd.  Reagan might have picked off a few wards on the southwest and northwest sides, but the 43rd was the real anomaly in that election.  Without having any data in front of me, I would guess that it had a lot to do with waves of affluent younger voters moving into the ward at that time.

      •  Nope (0+ / 0-)

Last Republican Presidential candidate to win Chicago was Ike in 1956. Nixon was the last to carry Cook County in 1972.
