    almost everytime the faucet was turned on - I've never heard of it on a toilet, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

      shuts off gradually, which would make it hard to have a hammer in that circumstance.

      I like your idea of sticks or something on the roof banging around. Nestled as I am in my oasis here, I hear branches rubbing against the roof all the time when the wind blows.

        We keep the sycamore cut clear of the roof.  Although after we shovelled the drive clean, it was annoying when the latest winds scattered sycamore twigs on it.  I call sycamores "self-cleaning" since they drop weak and damaged branches when they are small.

        We must never lose it, or sell it, or give it away. We must never let them take it from us.
