And patience to find the method that worked for different people while I was a quality engineer training in my department.  There is excitement to pass along the knowledge that you have as well as find new information and new ways of looking at the world as the students ask questions.

I find the reason that I teach is the moment that one student 'gets it'.  Watching the lightbulb in their head go off and their face brighten when they finally understand a concept is the reason that I love teaching.

I have come to realize that my enthusiasm to continue teaching directly relates to how much support that I receive from administration to help me achieve this goal.  Some districts and individual schools are much better at this than others.  You can tell the level of instruction and discipline in a school by how the principal treats the teachers.

Trust in God, all others bring data.

...though I have never had to deal with principals. However, I have to think that any system that actively discourages teachers from looking into our individual students' faces to see if there is learning happening is fundamentally flawed.

Teacher's Lounge opens every Saturday between 11 am and noon. It's not just for teachers.
