  •  Blacks used to, too. (0+ / 0-)

    So did whites.

What happened?  From what I understand, family sizes dropped, more women went to work, and people moved away from one another instead of an entire extended family making up an entire neighborhood. But that's only what I understand.

Those networks of the clients you want to praise wouldn't happen to be made up of a lot of stay at home female members and underaged babysitters, living the Great Depression life (or the life of that poor Mali family that burned to death in New York a couple days ago), would they?

It's a lot easier to have a vast network when there are 20 of you, all together, than it is if there are only 4. Or less.  I'm not an attorney, though.

So, what's the real difference? besides racial stereotyping.

    •  I just know that they have the networks. (0+ / 0-)

There is no hesitation in a cousin or a second cousin or a third cousin taking in the children.  They don't trust the state with their kids, for one thing.

As for blacks and whites, I don't know.  I do know that black families have been devastated by our penal policies of locking up the dreaded young black males for decades and decades for crimes that their white counterparts wouldn't do half the time for...

      It's not a justice system. It's just a system.
