  •  C'mon guys (4.00)

Don't confuse our hyper-vigilance with the rest of America.

Does your mom know how some senate vote swung? Does she care?

    •  It's a good idea I think (none)
It just makes sense.  First off, he could devote all his energies to campaigning.  Secondly, even if most Americans don't pay attention to the details they understand when someone isn't doing the job they are getting a good salary for so expect his percentage of missed votes to be trotted out.

Thirdly, all it takes is one narrowly defeated bill to catch some resonance for this bullshit tactic to work (maybe its unlikely but still).  Fourthly, resigning from his day job reflects a confidence in his candidacy.  And finally, even if he does lose the election (G-d Forbid), Kennedy is getting up there in years so it wouldn't be too long before Kerry would have an open seat to regain his place in the Senate.

    •  You're right (none)
My mom doesn't know. Moreover, she doesn't really know how her Senators voted on any particular piece of legislation.

She has formed the opinion, however, that Santorum is a sleaze and Specter is sliding rapidly in that direction.

My mom, though a Democrat, is a staunch Catholic, very anti-abortion. But, intelligent woman that she is, she refuses to use that issue as justification to vote for morons like Bush or sleazeballs like Santorum.

Even my kid brother, who is a very pro-Opus Dei type can't stand Santorum.

My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right. Sen Carl Schurz

Maybe they just aren't sufficiently anti-Man-on-Dog sex?
