Who are these people and what has made them this way?  Even though I realize they're unreachable, I still can't help but wonder why wire is loose in their brains.

    •  There are so many types with that wire loose (3+ / 0-)

      • The hard core faux Christian Right who wants rules, laws according to Old Testament Laws even no matter what cost to Democracy and Freedom.
      • The Warmongers who think the USA is so superior and powerful that if they want to conquer the war and drop a bomb on every country, so be it.
      • Those who live in Perpetual Fear and feel only Republicans can keep them safe no matter the evidence to the contrary.
      • Corporate types and the Selfish Rich

Non Binding is only Good for Undergarments, not for Senate Resolutions.

And the bigots and the haters who feel their "racial identity" is somehow threatened by inclusiveness.

      •  And perfectly sane people who have a different (0+ / 0-)

interpretation of events from their lives.

I have a fair number of acquaintances who have pretty much different political opinions than mine.

There IS an Islamic surge. 9/11 happened.

There are people who beat up old ladies to grab their purse.

There are BILLIONS of really poor people who might get weird.

        There ARE psychopaths.

People do watch Fox News, LOTS of them.

Always consider that you may not have the perfect angle on every event.

    •  They don't want to have to think. (0+ / 0-)

It's easier for them to be told what's right - and as long as the person doing the telling is using the accepted phrases (WAR ON TERROR, Patriot Act) it seems noble and right.

Damn it. Enough. I've had enough. And boy, does that word enough look weird when you type it enough times.

    •  Seriously, check out Arthur Silber's (0+ / 0-)

essays on the work of Alice Miller. I've never read anything that, IMO, does a better job of answering that very question.
Do give it a look, I think you'll very glad you did.

    •  Fear. Fear. Fear. (0+ / 0-)

For some reason they are afraid.  Of everything.  But mostly of death.

Not that we aren't all in some way--but these people are pathologically afraid.

      Conservatives Deconstructed  Are they nuts?

    •  Developmental disorder (0+ / 0-)

The "whiny ass titty babies" hypothesis was validated by research showing that overly nurtured infants become dependent and eventually as they mature, they favor authoritarian models, fundamentalist ideology and religion, Manichean world views.

It's a failure of good child rearing. I'm sure there are genetic flaws that can lead to similar dispositions, but the behavioral model has been demonstrated and thus we get the 30 percent.
