  •  he got elected Senator as an actor (0+ / 0-)

his movie career started when he played himself in "Marfie" with Sissy Spacek.   He then had a series of roles, including "Hunt for Red October", "No Way Out" to the point that he became a familiar face and voice, and he became very comfortable in front of cameras.

FWIW - he was one of few in Senate who endorsed McCain over Bush in 2000.

But I'm not sure he would transfer as well to the larger context, despite the familiarity people have with him through movies (now quite dated) and tv (Law and Order).  When he ran in TN it was as a TN native, with his beatup pickup truck, and with the blessing of state hero Howard Baker for whom he had been counsel on Watergate committee (and do people remember that he was the one who questioned Alexander Butterfield about the WH taping/).  Now he has been based in NY for the TV show.  He has been removed from public policy for a while.  On the one hand that could inoculate him from the disasters of this administration, but on the other he cannot point to pblic statements on issues the American people want.

I don't underestimate him, but I also don't think he is all that scary.

And he makes more money as an actor for less work than he would as president.

Those who can, do. Those who can do more, TEACH!
