  •  The TV show Numbers. (3+ / 0-)

It's about a math professor who helps his FBI agent brother fight crime.

Some of the math is a little wacky, but there are relevant topics. This week's was about voter fraud. Statistics were used to prove falsified totals.

Each episode is about 43 minutes long w/o commercials. You can check them out free at CBS's website.

But didn't find any topics that we are currently working on.  But buying the first season is on my to-do list for future math classes.

Trust in God, all others bring data.

      •  I have the first season DVD's (3+ / 0-)

and they're pretty good. They also have some behind-the-scenes stuff about the math used in the show.

          I love "Numbers."

Some of my friends who understand math laugh at me for liking it, but believe me, it makes numbers understandable to me. Maybe Charlie's arguments are simplistic for those who finished Advanced Calc. in high school, but I am not that person. I have a master's degree in English, and I an an excellent editor, able to spot and fix errors from a mile away, but I couldn't calculate an algebra problem if my life depended on it.

My problem with "Numbers" is the violence used by the FBI, especially during the interrogation parts. Plus, my dad worked in intelligence services all his life, and he always made fun of the FBI -- to the point that we were not allowed to watch the Efram Zimbalist, Jr. TV show. Dad said it was all bunk, and they were all incompetent idiots.

He was kind of judgmental, if you couldn't tell.

from the first season coming to talk here in a bit over a week.  I am hoping that more than just a few faculty and math geeks show up.
