the Palestinians won't get a state and, IMHO, will be much worse off than they could be with one.

    Al Gore should be president.

    •  Let them into Israel (3+ / 0-)

give them full civil rights, annex the West Bank and Gaza, and give up on the UN's failed partition plan.

I mean partition has worked so well everywhere else it was tried, right?  Germany.  Korea.  Vietnam.  Cyprus.

Sooner or later the two-state solution will be abandoned.  People interested in peace should push for that to happen sooner rather than later.

People interested in Jewish dominance over Palestinians, of course, will promote ad infinitum the creation of a demilitarized, impoverished appendage of Israel...

the Republic of Ireland, one may suppose, continue to dream of a 32-county country. But that isn't going to happen without the consent of the northern six counties.

The Palestinians, so far as I can tell, want their own state. The Israelis surely do.

Maybe after one or more generations of peace, some sort of federation might become possible. But we need to start with the world as it is. In the real world, the options are two states, more or less along the lines of the Clinton Peace Parameters, or Israel alongside, at most, a non-sovereign Palestinian Authority.

To the extent you have any say in the matter, the question becomes: how much suffering are you willing to see the Palestinians endure so that you can pretend that one state and a complete "return" are more than a dream?

        Al Gore should be president.
